Wow... very good article! I agree that goal setting is very important and planning your goals by writing them down is even more important. If there's one thing i've learned it's that if you don't write down your goals (whatever they may be) then they are simply wishes. When you write down your goal on paper, it's bringing your goal into reality. It becomes a tangible item that you can see physically in the real world. Your goal then becomes more real to you, and it gives you the motivation and confidence to strategize a plan of attack. If you fail to plan, then you are planing to fail. Hope that makes sense. Thanks

Wow, I think I do all of those a lot! I don't know if everyone else does this, but when I am trying to work on a technique I think about it too much and all the little details and then it doesn't flow. Does that flow usually come with just repetition? How do you exactly turn your brain off at times?

When the instructor has everyone pair up and work on techniques, it's a good idea to not always pair up with the same people every time, and every week. Mix it up and work with different people. When I do, I can see that striking your attacker isn't going to be the same with everyone. Some people are taller, and some are short like me so the strikes will be delivered in different places. Also, some people are tougher and want a little CONTROLLED contact during practice and others don't. It's then I am slower and have more self control. When i'm working the techniques with those that don't want a lot of contact, and by doing the technique slower, I see how i'm doing the technique and where it needs more work. Hope that made sense LOL

Basic training of core techiques in any art/sport requires thousands of reps.
After that it gets easier to refine, and and improvise with and between techniques and some might need only tens or hundreds of reps.

Thanks especially to Mr. Wheaton, Mr. Thomsen, Mr. Gough, and Mr. Leonard who were willing to put in some extra time on Saturdays to help us get as prepared as possible. This was a really great test. Congratulations everyone.

Great job to all of you! It's awsome to see the AKKI mission statement of "Higher Proficiancy through Inovation" demonstrated through all of those who tested. It was an honor to be on the board, and I thank each, and everyone of you who participated in the test & camp.
See you in September!

Respectfully,

Scott Hilderbrand

Great test! Everyone did so well--from what I could see, that is. Much thanks to my test partners for your help too. I literally couldn't have done it without you.
