The 13th annual Komen Salt Lake City Race for the Cure will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at The Gateway Mall at South Temple & 400 West in Salt Lake City, Utah.
And, whether you are a student here or not, I am asking you to join our Arrowhead Martial Arts team to help fight breast cancer.
The 5K (3.1 miles) run and walk and the 1 mile fun run/walk will start at 8:30am. Both events will start on 300 W & North Temple heading north, and coming back to end near the Gateway Legacy Fountain.
Bring your family and friends! Registration is $25 and anything over and above that is your donation. Our team goal is to raise $500 and hope to beat that by a landslide. To help start the donations, our studio has already contributed $100.
Fighting breast cancer is rather personal for me. You see, my mother is a breast cancer survivor (3 years and counting). Through her surgery, chemo, and her recovery, my mother taught me the meaning of “never give up.” She is a true inspiration to me and epitomizes the word “courage.” I don’t know how she stayed so strong.
I not only thank her doctors but everyone who contributed with their generous donations to help advance medicine so she, and other’s like her, could beat breast cancer.
However, there is still a lot of research that needs to be done to find the cure.
One in eight women will be stricken with breast cancer in her lifetime and the more we raise, the more we can give back to fund vital breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs in our own community and support the national search for a cure.
